what is designing?

During class my professor made an analogy or perhaps its better described as a metaphor. He said, though I am somewhat para phrasing, the proses of design is comparable to the scientific method and here id like to try and expand on it.

Let's start with observation. The process of acquiring data in order to get to a hypothesis. the observation process can easily be associated with the desires and vision of the client and the space and resources provided for the project. our hypothesis shall be the initial draft of plans and projected cost and time requirements of the project and possibly not the resulting cost or appearance. next the experiment which becomes construction a process in which the arquitect, engineers and other personnel are present. second to last is the acquiring, organization and/or processing of data which I can't think of anything that ties it to the introduction to arquitecture course that I'm taking because what are they going to do, look at their creation and go -well guess we can go home now-. and last is our conclusion that involves the interior decorating and the client moving or using the finished project. and thus concludes my completely unnecessary expansion of an in-class metaphor.

the Guggenheim

 Akyles D. The Guggenheim in Bilbao is a either really expressive or really narcissistic or maybe both. I'm not sure anymore. This Guggenheim is extreme in its appearance its wavy in some parts and sharp in others. the museum can be seen as an absolute expression of art and creativity an absolute and undeniable gargantuan expression of the beautiful, chaotic and shifting nature of art, or not. This museum can also be seen as a narcissistic construction an absolute expression of the architects or those funding the project's absolute dominance over form and function regardless of the chaos or cost that it incurs.  At least these are the view I hold of the museum after observation and some investigation into its designer and those funding it.

i blame you, not sure for what yet but still, You!

 Akyles D.   So, class is over, and I decide that instead of taking the bus I'm going to walk home which it's about an hour, but I like the walk, it's nice even with the sweating and exhaustion. Now, however, its ruined and I can't decide if it's because I can't un-see all the mismatching of styles and architecture or because I can see just how little beauty it actually has, let me explain. So, I'm walking home and what do I see: 1. I see a tree but why is it there it's not part of a row of trees, yet it's clearly been put here on purpose I can tell because its branches and its Leafs are cut in some places presumably to keep its shape but again why? if anything, it's in the way, the tree is in a street corner not only that but if one is trying to go either enter the side street/neighborhood or exit and join the main road they can't see onto incoming traffic until the front of their car is sticking out and probably in the way that is if they d

i saw baraka

 Akyles D.  A movie about the human condition. baraka was mesmerizing, the imagery beautiful and the sounds captivating, some were annoying but still amazing. I found myself enjoying much of it, to my surprise, and falling asleep for a little bit at the end, to my shame. I have also found or developed an annoyance for an aspect of the "human condition", which is what baraka claims to illustrate. In part of Baraka, we are shown temples, markets, city roads not made of asphalt or concrete but of stone, steps that led to a body of water that was constantly used, ritual grounds, artistic marbles and castles all of them ancient and old and covered in dust, moss, rot and/or rust. this really bothered me because many of these places where in constant use, filled with people and full of activity yet it didn't look alive at all. why not? why are these places where goods are still sold, where people still walk, where they pray, where they pay respect to the traditions of their ance
